THE LEGENDARY WATER“Sofia Kyivska” is back! Its history spans, if not centuries, then at least three generations of Kyivans. Since 1957, the “Kyivska” well has supplied the city and region with clean drinking water, and over 30 years ago, the company “Rosynka” began bottling it under the “Sofia Kyivska” brand. The brand design was refreshed more than once, production capabilities grew, and ownership changed over time. One thing has never changed — mineral water drawn from over 300 meters deep, still energizing Kyivans. A brand shaped by a deep history demanded a delicate redesign: it was essential to maintain recognition while evoking childhood memories and echoes of its visual heritage. |
THE NEW BOTTLE,with its smaller label, called for a more precise and succinct design. At the heart of the design is a three-tier logo featuring the iconic symbol of Saint Sophia Cathedral, a timeless emblem of Kyiv. Mirroring the 11th-century cathedral, the logo has a clear pyramidal structure. The type design features an eclectic, multi-layered style: modern grotesque elements are paired with nods to historical letterforms and flowing lines inspired by the fluidity of water. The arch framing the label and giving it a unique shelf presence is reimagined from a fragment of Saint Sophia’s fresco ornament. |
THE PRODUCT LINE’S COLOR PALETTEhonors the cathedral’s rich hues, showcasing dozens of shades of blue and green. At its core, the palette reflects the exterior — the colors of the domes and decorated facades, and the Oranta’s blue cloak, symbolizing natural purity and the earthly origin. The palette also reflects the water itself, matches the colors on the shelf, and simultaneously acts as a symbolic mark of Kyiv — the city of lush greenery and the blue Dnipro slopes. We aimed to convey, in a minimalist language, the purity and depth of a project with a rich historical background. “Sofia Kyivska” is making its comeback to consumers in 2026. |
